Effective List Building. Whatever you are wanting to sell online, one of the most important action you need to take is to build your own list of contacts or subscribers.

A good mailing list is one of your online businesses most important assets. 

You own your list, so even if some of your traffic stopped for whatever reason, your list would still be there.

You would be able to carry on making money online using your list of existing customers and subscribers.

That is why effective list building has to be a top priority for your business.

1. A Good Lead Magnet.

Examples of a lead magnet could be an eBook, eCourse or video. A lead magnet should have the following characteristics:-

  • It is easy to deliver. Basically this means a digital product that can be delivered automatically through your autoresponder.
  • It has to be something that your prospects really want or need. Research your market to discover what is in demand.
  • It has a high perceived value.
  • It solves a specific problem.
  • It enables you to sell another product or service on the back-end. Eg. A tripwire product.

PLR is a great resource for content for your lead magnet.

2. A Compelling Lead Page.

Even though you are giving your lead magnet away for free, traffic isn't going to come calling unless it provided good value. 

That’s why you need to create a lead page that will persuade potential prospects to complete your opt-in form.

Remember these tips:

  • Make sure your landing page looks polished and professional.
  • Start with your product’s main benefits.
  • Your lead magnet should arouse your prospect's curiosity. The idea being that the only way to satisfy that curiosity is by opting in.
  • Offer a call to action to get people opting in.

3. A Reputable Autoresponder.

This includes the well-established services such as Aweber.com, GetResponse.com or MailChimp.com.

4. An Initial Autoresponder Sequence

Generally, this multipart sequence should promote your tripwire product.

Keep these tips in mind:

  • Offer a sequence that offers useful information in order to build good relationships and keep your prospects interested.
  • But don't give away too much information. Make people eager to find out more and steer them towards your paid products.
  • Set up a three to seven-part sequence that’s both informative and engaging.
  • Each email should build anticipation for upcoming emails. E.G., “Next time you’ll discover a little-known trick for....!”
  • Write benefit-driven, curiosity arousing subject lines to get them to open the email. E.G., “Start a six-figure business for just $47”
  • Make sure you are using a responsive templates/HTML in your emails, as more and more of your subscribers will be reading your message from their mobile phones.
  • Track and test your emails. It’s the only way to know what’s really working in terms of email subject lines, sales copy, calls to action, and even the offers themselves.

5. Make A Commitment to Maintaining Your List.

So make sure that you send out an email at least once a week. This way you will see the profits from your list continue to grow.

It will be a waste of time going through all of these steps if you don't email your list on a regular basis.
